Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device

It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
